Dr. Hong is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering at KAUST. Her research is driven by the need to address water scarcity issues worldwide, and particularly in Saudi Arabia. Her research program aims to encourage the use of treated wastewater for various reuse purposes, particularly for agricultural irrigation, through the following: understanding the microbial safety concerns related to wastewater reuse, understanding the removal efficiencies and performances of current conventional wastewater treatment technologies, developing anaerobic membrane bioreactor to improve quality of treated wastewater. Dr. Hong has authored 4 book chapters and more than 40 publications in international journals on related topics. She is currently serving as an editorial board member for Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) and as an editor for research topic titled "Microbial Safety in Water Resources" in Frontiers.
