The studies carried out during my Ph.D. aim to develop greener and more efficient biofilm prevention/cleaning methods in water treatment systems.
This thesis introduces a polyelectrolyte coating that can be removed from the surface of a reverse osmosis membrane and Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) as an alternative for biofilm treatment. The studies described in this Ph.D. dissertation are focused mainly on finding greener and more efficient methods to clean, remove, and treat biofilm. The results presented, elucidate that it is possible to apply more than one environmentally friendly solution to prevent the use of harsh chemicals to treat biofouling. Nevertheless, there is still further research that needs to be done to fully take these alternatives to practice.
