The Water Desalination and Reuse Center (WDRC) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) serves the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the global community by enhancing technologies for water desalination, wastewater treatment, and water reuse.

The WDRC aims to fulfill its mission by researching and developing, in collaboration with Saudi and international stakeholders, more efficient, innovative, and sustainable technologies for water desalination and water reuse from impaired water sources.

Research Flagship Themes

WDRC activities seek to shape the direction of emerging trends in the water sciences and technology and to make key contributions in delivering aspects of the ambitious Vision 2030 agenda. To do this, the WDRC has identified three goals (flagship themes), focused around:

New approaches to more efficient and affordable desalination.

Turning byproducts of desalination and wastewater into a usable and value-adding resource.

Improving the sustainability and management of water resources.
