Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is an analytical technique that combines the features of gas-chromatography and mass spectrometry to separate and analyze (i.e. identification & quantification) volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds.

GC-MS allow liquid or gas samples injection. In the GC part the separation of volatile organic compounds is performed and, in the MS part it occurs the detection of chemicals as gas-phase ions by measuring the mass-to-charge ratio.

GC-MS powerful technique that can be used in several applications, such as detection of trace organic compounds (e.g., pharmaceuticals, pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, disinfection byproducts, etc). Additionally, it can identify unknown environmental intermediates.
