Terrestrial Hydrological Cycle Measurement

Distribution and variability of hydrometeorological variables is required to measure the terrestrial hydrological cycle. Field based sampling is acquired, using the following tools at a number of suitable wadi sites within the vicinity of KAUST

  • Eddy covariance and scintillometer systems for surface heat fluxes

  • Cosmic ray soil moisture systems for soil moisture and agricultural monitoring

  • 30 x distributed network of telemetered hydrometeorological towers

  • Lysimeter for field based investigation

  • Airborne remote sensing, multi-spectral and infrared sensors for surface and vegetation characterization

  • Atmospheric profiling tools for wind, temperature and water vapour
