Monday 9 September 2019, ACWAPower and KAUST signed an MoU inaugurating the KAUST – ACWA Power Center of Excellence for Desalination and Solar Power. The signing, which took place at the World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi, marks the beginning of a long-term research and innovation alliance between the two organizations that will ultimately help place Saudi Arabia at the forefront of international scientific advancements in water desalination and solar-power technology.
The collaborative effort will focus on reducing the costs of desalination, by improving the performance prediction in the design phase as well as performance monitoring and maintenance in the operational phase. This will reduce energy consumption, the use and discharge of chemicals whilst improving the desalination system's reliability and availability.
