Luca Fortunato, a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. TorOve Leiknes’s group, received the Best Young Scientist Oral Presentation award at ‘The International Symposium on Advanced Membrane Bioreactors for Environment Sustainability’ (IBA - AMBRES 2018) held on April 15 – 18, 2018 in Tianjin, China.
Fortunato’s presentation entitled “Biofouling development in Activated Sludge Membrane Bioreactor: In-situ non destructive monitoring" was selected from among 115 speakers who participated in the event. His work focuses on studying in-situ non-invasively the fouling formation in the Membrane Bioreactor under continuous operation. The innovative approach involving the use of an interferometric technique allowed monitoring and characterizing the biofouling in an activated sludge membrane bioreactor (AS-MBR).
The IBA - AMBRES was organized and hosted by Tianjin Chengjian University (TCU), China in association with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. It aims to provide efficient communication and pursuing deep collaborations centered on membrane bioreactor technologies, containing not only breakthroughs in fundamental research but also progress in practical industrial application.
