WDRC Ph.D. candidate, Nada Aljassim won the best oral presentation award at the IWA Microbial Ecology in Water Engineering and Biofilms Joint Specialist Conference organized by International Water Association in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Aljassim's presentation topic was "Persistence of a blaNDM-carrying E. coli and its gene expression response under simulated solar irradiation", she works with professor Peiying Hong's research group​.

The conference program covered a wide range of areas, including emerging and fast-moving topics (for example, the role of viruses and the fate of antibiotic resistance genes in water engineering systems), and a number of top-notch plenary speakers, it was attended by over 200 people from September 4-7, 2016.
