Terraxy, a KAUST start-up co-founded by KAUST Associate Professor Himanshu Mishra and alumni Dr. Adair Gallo, Jr., focusing on low-cost and eco-friendly solutions for desert agriculture, has been recognized as a Top Innovator in the Food Ecosystems in Arid Climates by the World Economic Forum's Uplink Program. The announcement was made during the Annual Meeting of the New Champions held in Tianjin, China, from June 27-29, 2023.

Terraxy is commercializing SandX and CarboSoil technologies to address the grand challenge posed by ultralow water and nutrient-use efficiencies in desert environments in the context of greening giga projects and irrigated agriculture in the Kingdom, aligned with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, and most significantly, the ambitious goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.

The "Food Ecosystems in Arid Climates" Challenge, organized in collaboration with WEF's Uplink, received responses from various participants worldwide, all proposing innovative solutions to enhance food security in the face of escalating droughts and desertification. His Excellency Faisal F. Alibrahim, the Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning, announced Terraxy as one of the ten winners.

"Being part of an event like this, bringing people together from different areas and making these collaborations happen, is really fundamental to driving forward innovation and development." Adair Gallo Jr., the CEO of Terraxy, said during the panel discussion. The winners will receive funding and support to further develop their ideas alongside increased visibility and networking opportunities. The event was attended by more than 1,500 influential figures from sectors such as business, government, civil society, and international organizations. | Learn more
