Luigi Ranieri, under the supervision of Professor Hans Vrouwenvelder, successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation titled "Water Treatment by Gravity-Driven Membrane: Understanding the Role of Biofilm on Permeate Flux and Water Quality." Luigi's research focused on investigating the effect of periodic biofilm control strategies on Decentralized Wastewater Treatment (DWWT). His work highlights that microbial biofilm can be manipulated by selecting a Gravity-Driven Membrane (GDM) design and operational parameters to improve treatment performance.
Luigi holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Salerno, Italy.
